 Hello,
I live in Antwerp.
Antwerp is the 2nd biggest city and the largest port of Belgium with 500.000 people in the city and up to 1 million in the metropolitan area.
Antwerp is Belgium's economic capital and the world's diamond center. Its the 3rd biggest port of the world and the 2nd biggest of Europe after Rotterdam.
Antwerp is known for its nightlife, its trendy and very young. Clubs like "Phill Collins and Cafe d'anvers" are certainly worth a visit.
Antwerp has every problem a big city has. The crime rate is escalating, air pollution and a serious traffic problem.
When you look at this picture, you probably will think: "This city looks grey" but it isn't. Antwerp is known for its historical buildings and its culture.
Its a multicultural city and is often called "the city of colours" (i'll try to upload some more pics).
If you want to visit Antwerp you can go by air. KLM, VLM and other airlines fly to Antwerp international (Deurne) about 5km from the center. Of course you can go by car but as i said the traffic problems are horrible and Belgian drivers have a really bad reputation. Going by train is the most comfy way to travel. Belgium has the most dense railway system of the world and you can take the Thalys to Antwerp. The Thalys is a high speed train that connects Paris with Antwerp. If you want some more info about this cool city go to WWW.DMA.BE its the site of the Antwerp city council.
If you visit Antwerp certainly visit: The Our Lady cathedral which is 123 meters high, Museum of fine arts, the South District, China Town, The Meir, Central Station, Town Hall and the cosy medieval streets in the historical center. Don't forget the zoo. Antwerp has the oldest zoo of the world, its founded in the 19th centery when Antwerp hosted the world fair. |
